Day 2 (Tuesday 21st October 2025)
Day 2 started just before 7am. Yesterday’s news of an 8 o’clock breakfast (which is late here!) meant we were all able to have some more valued sleeping time…. though most chalets were unsurprisingly up and chatting before the teachers started knocking soon after 7. Overall, it was an excellent first night on the Isle of Wight, with some of course drifting off to sleep faster than others. The teachers were pleased with all the chalets and how they (eventually!) settled down at lights out for the night. As the sun rose on a generally drier day (despite sudden downpours catching us out across the day a few times), spirits were high and mostly looking towards the looming Sensory Trail of the afternoon to come.
8am saw us meet with a welcome variety of cooked breakfast options. Again, children were all able to find something they wanted, with morning mealtime mainly revolving around questions and anticipation for the first full day of activities.
Then we were off! A day of much excitement; high-flying on the Zipwire and Vertical Challenge, impressing each other with Archery skills and accuracy, working together with positivity and effective teamwork for Orienteering and then of course, throwing ourselves into (for some, quite literally so!) the Sensory Trail. We have been impressed as always with the children’s support for each other, as well as the resilience of many to keep pushing themselves to achieve and complete new challenges.
Just before lunch today, the children had their first of two trips to the PGL shop, stocking up on not only sweets, but also souvenirs to bring home in memory of the week.
Then after lunch, it was time for the main event: our four groups were split into two to conquer the Sensory Trail together. Yesterday’s persistent rainfall meant conditions were perfect for our muddy intentions, with many of the children keen to test these too. Again, we were impressed by the teamwork and perseverance of so many who, despite getting progressively colder, wetter, muddier and more dishevelled by the minute, battled on to do their very best and make the teachers proud. We aim to share as much of this in tonight’s photos as we can, with more highlights to come once again in the children’s Leavers assembly at the end of the school year too.
As we type, the children are enjoying some free time in and around chalets, as well as on the sports court, before getting ready for another evening activity of either Passport to the World (a sight-wide, country and location-themed game) or Balloon Splash (a selection of humorous team games which last year, gave the staff just as much entertain as the children)
We hope you are enjoying our updates and keeping up with the children’s adventures – more to come tomorrow, as the group travel to new heights for Abseiling, Climbing and Zip Wire, as well as tackle Matrix, alongside the Beach Walk (which again we HOPE for good weather for)
Check in tomorrow for more highlights as ever.
